CRAVE Creativity - Pioneering Creative Teaching & Learning
Welcome! Do you ever wonder exactly how you got here? Everyday we take different turns in life, making choices, moving on to the next stages or chapters in our lives. You are here today at this very second because you are supposed to be. As you ventured out into the world something drew you to NCCC, maybe a job, the tuition price, a great program or just the hunch that something good was going to happen there. YOU selected this workshop because you want to take your teaching skills to the next level.
I'll admit it, creativity seems a bit unfocused and unattainable. But that is only our perception, creativity is what YOU make it. Ellis Paul Torrance "the father of creativity" recognized the value of creativity in the classroom and in life. To help ignite creativity in education everywhere he created the Torrance Incubation Model focusing on creative teaching and learning. What a great idea...teach creativity while teaching students to be creative. For the next two workshops, we will go beyond what creativity means to you at this very moment. Your perception will never be the same and at the same time you will have new tools as you begin a new chapter in your life.
My name is Jenna and I stumbled upon this creativity concept while getting my degree in public relations at Buffalo State College. I needed a minor and my department chair told me to check out the creative studies department. So I did and the moment I stepped into the department I knew that was where I was supposed to be. I obtained my public relations degree and creative studies minor in 2008 and accepted a job at the NCCC Foundation days after my graduation. I am now a master of science in creativity degree candidate at Buffalo State College where I am working on infusing creativity concepts in higher education. I have created this workshop with a few other students from the creative studies program at Buffalo State College to spread our knowledge. I'm glad you're along for the ride, since we are about to embark on a journey like no other.
To begin our journey, I've created a scavenger hunt so we can spend more time learning about classroom application of the Torrance Incubation Model.

Check out the pictures from the December 3, 2010 workshop where students take their learning to another level by experiencing creativity tool centers for Scamper, Morphological Matrix, Brainwriting and Visually Identifying Relationships. Also, located below are some activities and items that were distributed to students developed by me.
